Chela Noto "Vintages"
Vintages has two lines, one that is entirely graphic, one that is photographic. They are divided into to groups GF (Graphic Florals) and PF(Photographic) for the ease of both describing the lines, and for tracking orders.
Vintages Graphic Flowers are collages made from vintage botanical illustrations, postcards, letters, stamps, and free hand drawings and water colors. I start with an idea, usually a strong graphic of a flower or an insect which I scan into Photoshop, there I manipulate the image, collage in other elements such as text, stamps, textures, until I come up with something that really captures my imagination. I “paint” on the images in Photoshop. Once the image has been printed I embellish it with hints of glitter. I have recently started using my own watercolor paintings as elements in the cards. They can be best described as being part of the Shabby Chic aesthetic.
Vintages Photographs are images that I shoot and process to look like old Kodacrome , Polariod, photographs that you might find in an old shoebox in the back of a closet. This contains lots of florals, but I have also started to photograph old toys, whimsical figurines, and just about anything that grabs my fancy. I keep the vintage feel, but it with a hipper more contemporary vibe. There is more in this line to appeal to men, or for using as cards to give to men and boys – lots of toy cars, skeletons, and other fun stuff.
